Volunteer Policies
Age Requirements
All Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older (Youth 16-17 years must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them to their first volunteer shift to sign a waiver)
Children 13-15 years of age may accompany a parent or legal guardian during their volunteer shift. Children will not be assigned tasks, but can assist with the adults assigned tasks. Children are not allowed to wander or be un-supervised at any time. Children, Toddlers and infants under age 13 will not be allowed to accompany a volunteer at any time.
Commitment and Attendance
Volunteers are not required to participate in every activity or event, but if you agree to participate, you are expected to adhere to that commitment. Volunteers may cancel an assigned shift in the online volunteer calendar or app. Advance notification is recommended so that other arrangements may be made. If you no longer wish to volunteer with our organization or will be taking an extended leave of absence, please let us know by sending an e-mail to the volunteer coordinator. The volunteer management software charges Second Chance monthly based on how many active volunteers we have. If at any time you no longer wish to volunteer, please let up know so we can archive/delete your profile and save money to help more pets!
Volunteers who no-show for 2 shifts or 1 special event without just cause and notification will be removed from the volunteer list. If you are volunteering as part of court ordered community service, there is zero tolerance for no shows and/or tardiness.
Corrective Action
Second Chance for Homeless Pets reserves the right to terminate a volunteers’ connection with the organization at any time. Possible reasons for termination may include, but are not limited to:
Failure to adhere to volunteer guidelines
Misconduct of insubordination (on or off duty that may affect the organization)
Reporting for shift intoxicated
Theft of property or funds
Abuse or mistreatment of animals
