IMPORTANT: Before you commence your application

This opportunity is for New South Wales residents only. 

Please ensure that you have all of the following seven documents ready before you start your application. This will ensure a quicker transition to commence volunteer tutoring.

  1. Working with Children Check document (WWCC) including the registration number and expiry date
  2. Photo of you holding your photo ID, either a driver’s license or passport Photo holding ID example  
  3. Completed Criminal history Check – Application and informed consent form.

Proof of identification documents are not kept by TAFE NSW and will be destroyed. Examples of required documents can be found here: Proof of Identification

    1. Commencement Document x 1  e.g. Australian passport, birth certificate
    2. Primary Document  x 1  e.g. Australian Driver’s License,  proof of age card, marriage certificate
    3. Secondary Document x 2 e.g. Medicare card, utility bill, 

  

You will need to upload this documentation to create an application. 

 

Tips to submitting your application

  • Please provide a copy both sides of your driver’s license if you have changed your address.
  • If you have changed your name, please include your marriage certificate or another document to update this name change.
  • Please ensure that your photo holding your Identification is clear

CODE OF CONDUCT

The TAFE NSW Code of Conduct and Ethical Practices details the expectation that all staff will act in ways that are lawful, ethical and build trust in the public sector and TAFE NSW. This code applies to all TAFE NSW staff members no matter how they are engaged and includes volunteers.

As a volunteer you are expected to:

  • Make yourself available for at least 6 months to tutor a student
  • Respect and maintain the confidentiality of information gained as a volunteer Exercise discretion and confidentiality
  • Be punctual and reliable to your tutoring sessions
  • Check your e-mails regularly and answer them promptly
  • Be honest
  • Follow the rules

As a volunteer you can expect to:

  • Have an orientation or induction to TAFE NSW Volunteer Tutor program
  • Be given an appropriate orientation and training for the role as well as ongoing support and resources
  • Be treated as a co-worker; this includes job descriptions, Equal Employment Opportunity, Occupational Health & Safety, anti-discrimination legislation and organisational grievance processes
  • Have your personal information dealt with in a confidential manner
  • Be heard when making suggestions
  • Be valued and appreciated by the organisation and the student
  • Be asked for your permission before any job-related reference, police or other checks are conducted
  • Know the purpose and “ground rules” of the organisation
  • Be kept informed of organisational changes and the reasons for the changes
 

As the AMEP service provider, TAFE NSW expects to be able to:

  • Select the most suitable volunteers for the job by interviewing and screening all applicants; this includes reference and police checks and a prohibited employment declaration
  • Assist volunteers to undertake online training required to prepare them to volunteer in the Volunteer Tutor Scheme
  • Decide the most suitable placement of a volunteer
  • Maintain clear and open communication with volunteers
