Information for Volunteer Applicants
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Ottawa Network for Education within our JA Ottawa (Junior Achievement) programs.
We recruit volunteers from Ottawa’s business community and post-secondary institutions to lead interactive learning activities for students in grades 5 to 12. JA programs teach entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and work readiness skills by giving students real-world tasks like goal setting, building a personal budget, exploring interests and career pathways, and working with a team to start a small business.
Please note that all volunteer positions require careful screening. Not all applicants will be accepted. The registration process takes about 15 minutes.
Before you start your application form, please read the following carefully.
- You will need to have the names and contact information ready for 2 references that have known you for over 2 years (one must be a professional reference and one can be a family member), and your emergency contact person information.
- Please remember your references must be reachable by phone between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
By submitting personal information to ONFE, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information in accordance with our privacy policy, which can be reviewed by clicking here.
Ottawa schools welcome community volunteers of all cultures and abilities. Volunteers must be over 18 years of age. Volunteer positions are available to groups and individuals.
Volunteering with JA Ottawa will take place on school days during school hours.
In addition, we are recruiting volunteers within the Indigenous, newcomer/immigrant, and LGBTTTIQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgendered, two-spirit, intersex and queer) communities. Research indicates that matching volunteers to students with shared experiences benefits the students' progress.
