Youth Central's Code of Conduct
Youth Central Volunteer Code of Conduct (last updated June 2022)
1. Volunteers are expected to respect their Team Leader and their fellow volunteers.
2. Volunteers are expected to dress and behave appropriately at all Youth Central projects and events.
3. Any misbehaviour at a project by a volunteer will be dealt with in the following order:
- a discussion and verbal warning by a Team Leader
- a second verbal warning by a Team Leader
- dismissal from the project with no assigned hours
Some behaviour incidents may result in discussions with parents or guardians, and possible removal from all Youth Central programming.
4. When volunteers sign up for a project on the Better Impact database, the YVC Program Coordinator must approve the sign up by assigning them. When they are assigned, they will automatically be confirmed. (When a volunteer is confirmed, this means they cannot remove themselves from the project through the database, thus, we encourage volunteers to only sign up for projects that they know they can commit to.)
5. We understand that schedules can change! Volunteers can remove themselves from a project by e-mailing or calling the Youth Central office as long as they give at least 72 hours notification to cancel (we encourage you to communicate during business hours). Anything less will be treated as a “no show”. For volunteers that sign up for a project within the 72 hour time window, cancellation will automatically result in a no show. Please note that illness is a valid reason to not attend a project and you will not be given a no show for cancelling within the 72 hour window if you are ill.
Volunteers that miss the icebreaker (completed at the beginning of the project) will be considered late, this includes virtual projects. Three cases of being late for a project will result in a “no-show”. We appreciate that there are sometimes circumstances outside of your control; however, please be in touch with the Team Leader as soon as possible to notify them.
“No shows” will be tracked.
No Show Policy:
- One “no show” will have no impact on a volunteer’s account.
- Two “no shows” will result in an email from the YVC Program Coordinator and deactivation of their account for a month.
- Three “no shows” will result in a phone call from the YVC Program Coordinator to discuss a volunteer’s future with Youth Central.
Even one “no show” without an adequate excuse can lead to denied letters of reference or phone references.
6. Volunteers are expected to inform the Team Leader if they need to leave their volunteer station and project site for any reason. If an issue arises it is the responsibility of the volunteer to inform the team leader first.
7. Volunteers are expected to engage and stay on task during a project. Team leaders will assign hours based on the work and commitment they see.
8. Volunteers should not show up for a project unless they have been assigned on the database. Any volunteers who show up that have not been assigned will be sent home and hours will not be logged.
9. All technological devices (eg. cell phones, etc.) must be put away during a volunteer project.
10. Volunteers are expected to participate in the ice breaker and wrap-up activities prior to and at the end of a project. If a volunteer attends a project 15 minutes late or leaves a project early, this includes a virtual project, without an adequate excuse it will be noted on their profile. 3 or more occurrences will result in one ‘no-show’ on their profile
11. Volunteers and their parents/guardians should determine if they are fit to participate in the volunteer project prior to attending. Please do not attend a volunteer project if you are feeling ill.
