Community Healthcaring Kitchener-Waterloo is dedicated to treating all individuals with dignity and independence. We are committed to integration, equal opportunity, and meeting the needs of people with disabilities by removing barriers and complying with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

Police Information and Vulnerable Sector Checks Policy Summary

Overview: Community Healthcaring Kitchener-Waterloo is committed to ensuring the safety and security of clients, staff, students, and volunteers. This responsibility includes a duty of care toward vulnerable individuals.

Key Points:

  • Duty of Care: We have a responsibility to protect vulnerable persons, especially when our staff, volunteers, or students are in positions of authority or trust. This includes providing healthcare services and activities such as teaching, supervising, and counseling.
  • Vulnerable Persons: Defined as individuals who, due to age, disability, or other circumstances, may be dependent on others or at a higher risk of harm. This includes children, seniors, individuals living with disabilities, and victims of crime.
  • Background Checks: To ensure safety, all staff, volunteers, and students aged 18 and over are required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
