Coastal Jazz and Blues Society Volunteer Policy
VOLUNTEER POLICY
Coastal Jazz and Blues Society would like to acknowledge that our festival takes place on the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations. We are grateful to live, work and gather on this land.
CJBS is committed to inclusion, equity and diversity in mind, body and spirit. We are continually working to strengthen and deepen our knowledge and practices in these areas.
The Coastal Jazz and Blues Society agrees to:

Protect volunteer personal information in accordance with British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy and the Personal Information Protection Acts

Treat volunteers respectfully

Provide adequate training and information prior to a volunteer’s first shift

Provide a complete schedule of volunteer requirements prior to the start of the Festival

Provide a Festival ID Rush pass for at least 16 hours of work scheduled
The Volunteer agrees to:

Submit in full and prior to the advertised deadline, a completed volunteer application form

Sign a Release & Waiver of Liability form before one’s first shift, or if the volunteer is a minor, have a parent or guardian sign in their stead

Treat the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society staff, board, fellow volunteers, and attendees respectfully

Act as an ambassador for the Festival to the public using the information provided by the Festival

Commit to a minimum of 16 hours over the course of the Festival

Display the identification provided by the Festival (t-shirt and lanyard with Volunteer ID) for the duration of each active shift

Arrive 5 – 15 minutes early for your shift and let your Crew Chief know you’re there, ready to go and prepared to stay for your scheduled shift

Let your Crew Chief or staff member know if you are uncomfortable with a task you’re asked to do

Let your volunteer department know at least 72 hours in advance if you need to cancel/change a shift

Remain sober while on shift at the Festival. Intoxication of any kind is not permitted

Provide proof of Covid-19 Vaccination (subject to change according the Provincial Health Orders)

An invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Party

A Festival ID Rush pass for 16 hours volunteer commitment (a percentage of seats will be held for volunteers specifically to use Rush Passes, subject to availability)

Additional perks for volunteers who commit to 32+ hours or are assigned Crew Chief
Please Note:

A volunteer will normally be a person aged 16 years or older. Special consideration may be given to younger volunteers, please inquire.

The Festival reserves the right to dismiss volunteers from duty without notice when a volunteer’s behaviour is in direct contravention with any of the clauses above.

Volunteers have the right to remove themselves from duty, and lodge an official complaint with Festival management, when Festival staff, volunteers, or artists’ behaviour is in direct contravention with any of the clauses above.

Volunteers, by virtue of their contribution to the Coastal Jazz and Blues Society, are entitled to a reduced rate membership to the Society in exchange for the work that they do. Volunteer members can receive donor benefits at the $50 level, for $25. The perks at the $50 level include the following:

Please note on the volunteer application form if you would like to be counted as a member of the Society and receive benefits, including invitations to special Coastal Jazz events and weekly E-Newsletters. If paying for membership by cheque, please make it out to 'The Coastal Jazz & Blues Society'.
