Volunteer Services Overview and Policy

Volunteer Services Overview and Policy

Bayou Animal Service is open from 8am-5pm; Monday - Saturday and Sunday from 8am-12pm for volunteer service personnel.

While at the facility, you will encounter several companion animals. If you are allergic to or have a fear of dogs or cats please tell the staff before you start working.

We have a few requirements

What to wear:

You MUST wear long pants. This is for your safety.  If you are not wearing long pants, you will be sent home to change. Your legs must be protected from the objects and animals we work around.

Closed-toe shoes are also required. You do not have to wear boots - but your feet cannot be exposed while working. This again is for your safety due to the nature of our work.

No offensive clothing. No indecent language, profanity, or images of anything that the public would consider offensive.

Ladies, please wear clothing that is not considered provocative.

While you’re working:

Please do not disturb the public works crew. Do not get on their equipment and please stay within the bounds of where the shelter lines are. The public works department has been nice enough to share space with us. We must be respectful.

Please know that most of our work is done between the hours of 8am and 12pm.

Volunteers can come in and work at any time. We welcome all volunteer service personnel, but please be respectful of the staff, the public, and the public works employees. (If unable to be respectful, you will be asked to go home that day. If it continues, you will be asked to not come back.) We ask that you clean up after yourself as well.

You are responsible for checking-in and checking-out. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with the shelter manager, Sarah Saunders.

You can come into the shelter, or call us at 281-337-3117.

Please read this before submitting your application. Submitting is an agreement you have read this form
