How we will protect and use your data
We will process the data you provide in order to offer you a volunteer role and manage your volunteering experience under the legal principle of legitimate interest. Including but not limited to, ensuring we comply with the laws around eligibility to volunteer including work permits in particular for younger volunteers; to enable us to carry out necessary risk assessments or request references; to enable you to access Blue Cross systems as part of your volunteering role; and to accommodate any reasonable adjustments to ensure your safety (through the completion and submission of a health questionnaire).
We will use your use data to gather routine statistics in order to improve the experience of all our volunteers and to make management decisions about our volunteering programme. This data is anonymised and will be used to highlight overall trends in volunteering; no individuals will be identified from it.
We take all reasonable efforts to keep our details safe and secure and will only share them with suppliers or professional agents working on our behalf, for example, software providers such as Better Impact Inc. who help us to store and manage our volunteer data. We carefully select our partners and will only share information with them if we are confident that they will protect it and comply with data protection law. We will always have a contract in place with them that assures this.
Our volunteering teams will contact you, usually via email or phone, about your volunteering role and other opportunities to volunteer; with relevant volunteering news that may be of interest to you; and to communicate any key changes and updates that you need to be aware of as part of the Blue Cross team.
To read more about how we use your personal data, read our Volunteer Privacy Policy here.
