Volunteer Requirements
- minimum age is 16 years old
If accepted and offered a volunteer placement, the following will be required:
- Reference - Be prepared to provide contact information for one reference
- Vulnerable Sector Check -police check may be required for some roles
- Health Screening - must be completed by your family doctor before you may begin volunteering and includes a 2-step TB (Tuberculosis) Skin Test and proof of immunization for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Varicella (chicken pox).
- Commitment - one 3-4 hour shift weekly; minimum 6 months to 1 year
- Availability/Interests - Provide as much information as possible regarding your availability and interests; applications are reviewed based on current needs, and matching individuals who have indicated interest and are available at those times.
- Training - complete all mandatory orientation and training
The hospital is not able to cover any costs incurred; for example, for the completion of Health Screening form, Vulnerable Sector police check, etc.
We appreciate your interest in volunteering at Sunnybrook. However, due to the large volume of applications we receive, we are unable to offer a placement or follow up with every applicant. Applicants who are being considered (based on availability and interests) will be invited to an interview. Applications are kept on file for 6 months; after this time, we invite you to reapply.
