Volunteer Policies & Agreement
We are looking for outgoing individuals who want to help us raise funds while having fun.
Event Details: Teams of volunteers will walk around to cover the entire venue (except the casino). As a 50/50 Raffle Steward, you will help us spread awareness and sell 50/50 tickets to racecourse patrons.
Age Requirement: Volunteers must be at least 19 years old.
Event Location: Hastings Racecourse, 188 N Renfrew Street, Vancouver
Shift Times:
- Friday - 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm
- Saturday - 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm
- Sunday - 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Responsibilities:
- Walking around the venue in teams of 2 or 3 and selling 50/50 tickets to attendees;
- Handling small amounts of cash;
- Operating Square reader through iPad;
- Spreading awareness about the GVFB;
- Potentially helping the host draw the winning 50/50 ticket.
Required Skills, Abilities, and Experience:
- Proficient English language skills;
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time;
- Comfortable communicating with the public in loud and fast-paced environments;
- Ability to follow directions;
- Ability to work under minimal supervision;
- Ability to walk and use stairs;
- Ability to bend, twist, and lift up to 20 lbs.
Commitment & Sign-up Process: This summer series is our longest-running event of the year, running from May to October, and we rely on volunteer support throughout the season. We are looking for volunteers who can participate in at least 2 shifts from May to October.
At the beginning of each month, you'll receive an email with a list of available shift dates based on your availability. To sign up, simply reply to the email—shifts are filled on a first come, first served basis. We’ll do our best to match volunteers with their preferred dates!

Please read the following before you submit an application.
Volunteer Agreement:
- I will act honestly and follow the highest standards of ethical behaviour when interacting with other volunteers, event participants, staff, and community members.
- I will arrive on time and commit to an entire shift unless an absence is unavoidable, in which case I will refer to the cancellation policy.
- I will accept directions and decisions made by GVFB staff and complete all duties diligently.
- I will report unsafe conditions and practices to GVFB staff.
- I will support GVFB staff and other volunteers with patience, respect, and dignity.
- I will maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive GVFB information I may learn or use to perform my volunteer role.
- I understand that I cannot simultaneously maintain active volunteer status and active GVFB client status.
- I agree that by submitting an individual volunteer application, I have read and accepted all volunteer requirements and the Volunteer Agreement.
- I further acknowledge and agree that if I do not follow the GVFB policies, I may be asked to temporarily or permanently remove myself from all GVFB volunteer opportunities.
