Volunteer Code of Conduct
As a volunteer you are an important part of our team. To ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for everyone, please follow and agree to these guidelines.
Respect and Courtesy
- Treat all staff, volunteers, and community members with kindness and respect.
- Listen to instructions and follow guidance from library staff.
- Avoid language or behaviour that could be considered offensive, bullying, or discriminatory.
Safety First
- Always prioritize your own safety and the safety of others.
- Report any hazards, accidents, or unsafe situations immediately to library staff.
- Do not engage in activities or use equipment without permission and training.
Professional Behaviours
- Arrive on time and let library staff know if you cannot attend.
- Wear appropriate clothing for your role and follow any dress code requirements.
- Do not use mobile phones or personal devices during volunteering unless permitted.
- Volunteers must not consume or possess alcohol, drugs, or tobacco while volunteering.
Communication and Confidentiality
- Respect the privacy of others and keep any personal or sensitive information confidential.
- Do not share photos or information without permission and follow WSCC data protection guidelines.
- If you feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or unsure about something, speak to library staff immediately.
- Ask questions if you need help or clarification.
Representing West Sussex County Council
- Be polite and positive at all times.
- Follow all rules and policies provided during your induction.
By volunteering, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct. If you do not follow it, your volunteering role may be reviewed or ended.
