Attendance
Volunteers are vital to CCC’s mission and everyday work. Therefore, it is essential that volunteers are punctual and attend all committed volunteer shifts. CCC understands that unexpected circumstances may impact a volunteer’s ability to attend a committed shift. In such situations, please contact CCC’s Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible so that another volunteer can be found to fill the absence. No-call, no-shows may be recorded in a volunteer’s file and may impact an individual’s ability to volunteer with CCC in the future.
Grooming and Dress
Volunteers are representatives of Children’s Cancer Connection at events, programs, and when out in the community. All volunteers should dress in an appropriate manner when volunteering on behalf of CCC. Volunteers are often asked to wear a Children’s Cancer Connection volunteer shirt or other CCC apparel. A volunteer shirt will be provided at your first volunteer opportunity. Any future CCC apparel needs will be supplied at the volunteer’s cost.
Please keep the following guidelines in mind when volunteering with Children’s Cancer Connection:
- No clothing can advertise or reference drugs, sexual references, alcohol or other potentially offensive statements
- Appropriate shoes for the activity (i.e. walking, special event, etc.)
- Shorts are permitted, but please consider appropriate length
- Shirts with Children’s Cancer Connection logo are encouraged (these items can be purchased online through our store)
At-Will Assignment
All volunteers for CCC are on an at-will relationship with the organization. Volunteers are free to resign from their position at any time, just as CCC is free to terminate a volunteer for any reason at any time.
Termination
All volunteers with CCC are at-will and may be terminated at any time, with or without cause and without prior notice by CCC. All terminations will be documented in writing and retained by Children's Cancer Connection in a secure file.
Communication
Email is the primary mode of communication used by CCC. When you provide your email address on the volunteer application, it will be added to our volunteer database. Volunteers have the option to unsubscribe from emails at any time, however, please keep in mind that it is our main mode of communication.
Hours
To measure the impact of CCC’s volunteer program, the volunteer department tracks a variety of metrics, including volunteer hours. We will ask volunteers to log their hours at various events and programs. Please do your best to provide correct check-in and check-out times to help us get the most accurate data possible. Should you forget to check-in or check-out for a volunteer shift, please email the Volunteer Coordinator with the date and time of your volunteer service.
Media Relations
Please refrain from speaking to media personnel on behalf of Children’s Cancer Connection. Written or verbal statements for publications regarding Children’s Cancer Connection shall be released from Children’s Cancer Connection only. Unless provided with prior consent, volunteers are not permitted to take photos while volunteering with Children’s Cancer Connection. This is especially important when working with the children we serve, as they may not have consented to having their photos taken.
Phone Usage
Office phones are used for the business of the organization. While we understand that there are circumstances in which you may need to use your personal phone, we ask that volunteers limit their personal phone usage while volunteering with CCC. This allows us to complete our work in an accurate and timely manner.
