Thank you for expressing an interest to volunteering with the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Volunteering is a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience within a busy acute hospital environment while providing valuable support to our patients and staff. We offer a range of volunteering opportunities, both patient-facing and non-patient-facing, allowing applicants the chance to contribute to the clinical and/or administrative foundations of the services our Trust provides. Applicants must be over 16 years of age and are able to commit to a minimum of one three-hour shift per week for a period of at least six months.
General Volunteer Applications:
Our applications to volunteer with the Trust are currently closed but will reopen on Monday 2nd June at 10:00am and will close on Wednesday 11th June at 4:00pm. You will be notified from Friday 13th June if your application has been successful. Successful applicants will be invited to our Selection Evening on Wednesday 18th June from 5:30pm to 7:30pm
IMPORTANT – Applications from T-Level and BTEC Students:
In October 2024, we launched an initiative where we welcomed a cohort of T-Level students to become Trust Volunteers for their first year of their T-Level course. The aim is that we will support these students throughout their journey and placements and then to recommend those who have fulfilled their Volunteer commitment for formal placements within our Trust for their second year.
Due to the success and our capacity to host the number of applicants in this initial student group, we have made the decision to now only accept T-Level and BTEC applications to become Volunteers once a year. The next opportunity for those T-Level or BTEC students who are interested in becoming Trust Volunteers will be Monday 6th October 2025. An annual intake in-line with the academic term will allow us to focus and fully support the cohort of students throughout their first year and also help to ensure a high-quality experience for everyone involved!
