*New applicants must select and apply for only ONE of our two programs (Cooking and Grocery Bus Volunteer OR Office Volunteer. Opportunities to be involved in both programs are available after one term of volunteering with the Campus Food Bank*
For this program, this process consists of an Individual Interview scheduled with our Programs Manager.
Our Individual Interviews (30 minutes in duration) will take place between September 16th-27th.
Mandatory Volunteer Training will be on Saturday, September 28th from 10:00am-4:00pm. Applicants must be available for that day.
A Successful Volunteer Applicant Must Be:
-Able to attend all interviews and the mandatory training session
-Able to volunteer for at least two campus kitchens and one grocery bus per semester, with 2-4 hours of planning time in advance of these events.
-Able to clear a Police Information Check
-Preference will be given to current students at the University of Alberta
-Dedicated, hardworking and committed to the Campus Food Bank's Mission to eliminate hunger on campus.
Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
-Attend interview and training with the Campus Food Bank
-Attend at minimum two campus kitchens and a grocery bus per semester
-Participate in planning recipes, grocery lists and other prep work for classes
-Collect and return supplies to the Campus Food Bank
-Maintain regular communication with Campus Food Bank staff
-Facilitate campus kitchen classes, with support from Campus Food Bank staff and fellow volunteers
-Follow food safety criteria, as outlined in your food bank training
-Initiate conversations between program participants, in order to facilitate community-building
-Know and explain other programs offered by the Campus Food Bank to bus and class participants
-Other duties as assigned by staff.
