Organization Policies

For the Spring and Summer months, this process consists of an Individual Interview scheduled with our Volunteer Coordinator. Our volunteer selection process for the Fall and Winter term includes both a Group Interview and an Individual Interview.

Our group interviews (2 hours in duration) and new applicants MUST attend one of the two group interview sessions. This will take place on September 10th-11th between 6pm to 8pm. 

Our Individual Interviews (30 minutes in duration) will take place between September 16th-20th between 10am to 6pm

Mandatory Volunteer Training will be on Saturday, September 28th from 10:00am - 4:00pm. Applicants must be available for that day. If accepted, new volunteers must submit a police check within two weeks of their start date. 

A Successful Volunteer Applicant Must Be:

-Able to attend all interviews and the mandatory training session

-Able to volunteer for two, one-hour office shifts per week, and minimum one special event in the community (awareness or fundraising for the food bank)

-Able to clear a Police Information Check

-Preference will be given to current students at the University of Alberta

-Dedicated, hardworking and committed to the Campus Food Bank's Mission to eliminate hunger on campus.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:

-Preparing and issuing food hampers, perishables and toiletries

-Repackaging bulk food for distribution to clients

-Inspecting, sorting and stocking donations

-Provide general information about the Campus Food Bank to clients, potential volunteers and donors

-Educate clients about the policies and procedures of the Campus Food Bank

-Be knowledgeable of services in the University of Alberta and Edmonton community that may help our clientele

-Refer clients to other services as necessary

-Assist with fundraising and special event (minimum of once per semester)

-Performing data entry and other general office tasks (cleaning, organizing, filing, etc.)

-Other duties as assigned by staff.
