Eligibility Criteria to Apply for Foundational Doula training course
This course is open to anyone who would like to become a birth doula. Fee-paying places are available, and there are a limited number of scholarships available for culturally and linguistically diverse people and people from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
You must be passionate about supporting pregnant women and new parents.
We offer scholarships for bicultural women who are competent in English [to be able to comprehend and understand English and ability to complete written tasks] and another community language (Arabic, Oromo, Urdu, Farsi, Burmese, Chinese and Vietnamese are desirable).
We offer scholarships for people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 [at least 2 doses], unless certified medically exempt [you will need to provide us with a certificate of exemption].
You must live in Greater Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat, and be able to travel to central Melbourne to attend some classes and training days.
Have a Working with Children Check and be willing to undertake a Police Check.
You must be willing to commit to full attendance and participation throughout the course and the learning process.
You will need to have the flexibility in your life to be on call for women or birthing people in labour while completing the course, and as required as a Volunteer Doula for Birth for Humankind.
