VCE Master Gardener Applicant Agreement
VCE Master Gardeners are an educational gardening service organization under Virginia Cooperative Extension which is a joint program under Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. The program will enable you to give back to your local community through volunteer hours. As part of your training you will be given 50 hours of educational content that will help you learn to research answers to horticulture questions. The course work will consist of weekly chapter readings, CANVAS courseware assignments and required live Zoom meetings on Wednesday's from 7-8:30pm during the class period. There will also be three additional day/weekend hands-on field trips/workshops. This adds up to about 10 hours of course work a week.
As a volunteer you will be required to complete 50 hours of volunteer service after graduation in one year to achieve Extension Master Gardener status. To maintain the certification thereafter, you will be required to complete 20 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours of continuing education each following year.
