Volunteer Expectations
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at The Alaska Zoo!
By volunteering at The Alaska Zoo, you are helping us with our mission of promoting conservation of Arctic, sub-Arctic and like climate species through education, research and community engagement.
Once we have received your application the next step will be coming into the zoo to meet with the Volunteer Coordinator. This gives you a chance to learn more about volunteering at the Zoo and ask any questions you may have.
Volunteer Expectations:
- Wear your Alaska Zoo nametag at all times when volunteering at the zoo.
- Be friendly and helpful to zoo visitors, we want their experience at the zoo to be a pleasant one.
- Volunteers are not allowed in animal exhibits, nor are permitted behind the scenes unless performing a pre-arranged task with zoo staff.
- Be reliable and punctual. We depend on volunteers to show up on time.
- We ask volunteers to give 50 hours per year to the best of their ability.
- Remember that flexibility in the program is very important and be willing to try new things! A good attitude and willingness to help where needed will lead to more volunteer opportunities and a better volunteer experience.
