Principles of the Colleague Volunteering Programme
The below sets out several principles of the Colleague Volunteering Programme – 24 Hours to Make a Difference:
- The programme will enable colleagues to commit to a maximum of 24 hours of volunteering in a rolling 12-month period. The NCA will support this time within their regular working hours. Any colleague who wishes to work beyond the 24 hours can do so in their own time.
- The 12-month period will commence from the first volunteer session.
- If the 24 hours is not used during the 12-month period, there will be no facility for carry over into the next year.
- The programme will only allow for volunteering at the NCA.
- Sign up to the programme must be agreed with the line manager beforehand
- Specific volunteering time, while actively supported by the NCA, should be agreed with the line manager beforehand as this will be subject to the needs of the service at that point in time.
- Sign up to some additional checks may be required, although the volunteering team will ensure that this is done in an accessible and timely way with minimum ask from the colleague
- Those colleagues volunteering should not undertake any role that would have any relation to their paid work. Volunteering should be in another part of the organisation ideally in a different department or site.
