BFP Volunteer Orientation
BFP Volunteer Orientation
Welcome to Beagle Freedom Project! Please review the following information before completing your volunteer application.
Our Mission and Work
Beagle Freedom Project helps animals suffering in captivity and gives them a chance at freedom. BFP combines rescue work with advocacy aimed at reforming and ending abusive institutions, including animal testing. Our work extends beyond beagles and beyond Oklahoma.
Ways to Volunteer
Volunteers may support events and tabling, approved remote projects, transportation, or on-site activities at Freedom Fields in Oklahoma. Event and tabling volunteers educate attendees about BFP and animal testing, share approved materials, and help with approved event needs.
Respect and Representing BFP
Treat staff, fellow volunteers, and the public with kindness and respect. Be professional and welcoming, follow staff direction and site rules, and use approved BFP information. If you do not know an answer, refer the question to the appropriate BFP staff member. Do not speak to the media on BFP's behalf without authorization.
Confidentiality
Keep sensitive information about BFP's animals, operations, and people private. This includes internal information and personal information about donors, adopters, volunteers, employees, and others. Use information and materials only for your approved assignment, and do not share confidential information publicly or with unauthorized people.
Attendance and Communication
If you cannot attend a scheduled shift, notify the Volunteer Manager or designated BFP staff member as soon as possible. When possible, provide at least 24 hours' notice. Use Better Impact for volunteer communications whenever possible. For an assignment issue requiring prompt attention, use the contact method provided for that assignment.
Safety and Animal Care
Never volunteer under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Weapons are not permitted at BFP activities. Follow staff-provided safety and animal-handling instructions. Interact with animals only within your approved assignment, avoid restricted areas, and do not perform tasks you have not been trained or approved to perform. Report injuries, animal concerns, safety issues, and incidents to BFP staff promptly.
Training and Approval
General volunteer orientation is part of this application. Additional training, documentation, or approval may be required before performing specific assignments. Tabling Training may be required for an event. Transportation requires BFP transport approval. Freedom Fields Orientation is required for on-site activities that call for it. General orientation alone does not authorize every role.
Better Impact and Volunteer Hours
BFP uses Better Impact for volunteer communications, training records, scheduling, assignments, and hours tracking whenever possible. Keep your profile and contact information current. Review assignment details before volunteering and record your actual volunteer hours as instructed.
Returning After Time Away
If you have not volunteered for six months or more, BFP may require you to retake relevant training modules before volunteering again. Confirm any outstanding requirements with BFP staff before accepting an assignment.
