Our Ushers play a vital role in fulfilling our mission to inspire, engage, and unite our community through the transformative power of the arts. Whether we are greeting guests, assisting with seating, or helping to create a positive theater experience, our usher team is the face and personality of MPAC. Our team’s dedication to excellent service helps shape the experience of every guest who walks through our doors, ensuring they feel valued and welcomed.

Important Usher Expectations:
- Meet the minimum commitment of three (3) shifts per month
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on performance schedules
- Sign-up for shifts online using our volunteer scheduling system, Better Impact, on your computer or mobile device
- Communicate primarily via email
- Supply your own uniform and follow the dress code
- Be dependable and punctual for all shifts
Standard Usher Uniform
- White dress shirt or blouse
- Black vest or blazer/jacket
- Black dress pants or knee length skirt
- Black tights/stockings with skirt
- Black close-toed shoes and black socks
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet and assist guests, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere
- Scan tickets and direct guests to seating and amenities
- Provide wayfinding assistance throughout the facility
- Answer questions and resolve concerns promptly and professionally
- Seat late arrivals and re-seat guests during appropriate breaks
- Apply best practices when assisting guests of all abilities
- Share information about upcoming events, programs, and accessibility offerings
- Help maintain a safe, respectful environment by monitoring audience behavior and following Front of House guidelines
- Support emergency procedures and assist with safe guest evacuation when necessary
- Help manage crowd flow before, during, and after performances
- Report facility or safety concerns to staff
- Communicate via two-way radio
- Support Volunteer Ushers and communicate performance observations to leadership
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture
- Represent MPAC with professionalism in appearance and guest interactions
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization in Front of House areas
- Provide wheelchair service to guests as assigned
- Support merchandise sales as assigned
- Collect and submit lost and found items
- Accurately record work hours in Paylocity
- Attend and participate in all required trainings
Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience
- Previous customer service or hospitality experience is a plus, but not required
- Must meet the minimum shift requirement of three shifts per month
- Must be 16 years of age or older

- Positive, adaptable attitude in fast-paced environments
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations
- Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and take initiative when needed
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on performance schedules
Work Environment / Job Specifications
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is extensively required to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate stairs and multi-level seating areas, communicate with guests and team members, and handle objects or equipment. Close vision is required for tasks such as reading tickets and event information. The employee must be able to operate a two-way radio (training provided).
Work may occasionally take place outdoors depending on event and operational needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
