Organization Policies
Minimum requirements for all volunteer applicants include:
- 18 years of age or older (or 16+ with parent/guardian approval)
- online submission of volunteer application
- in-person or virtual interview, reference and criminal record check
- adherence to the volunteer code of conduct, policies, procedures and guidelines
- signing our Heritage volunteer agreement (required annually for insurance purposes)
- attending a volunteer orientation session and all mandatory training sessions specific to the volunteer position
Kindly note that all curatorial and behind the scenes volunteer positions only take place Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm, there are no weekend or evening shifts available. Please do not apply for these volunteer positions if you are not available during these times.
Due to the large number of applications we receive, applicants may be placed on a wait list.
The Royal Alberta Museum is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for volunteers. Volunteers involved in activities of the Heritage Division are insured through the Risk Management Insurance Division (RMI) of the Government of Alberta. The Division is approved by deeming order from the Workers’ Compensation Board - Alberta (WCB) for coverage of all individuals who are involved in any and all aspects of site operations and management on a volunteer basis at any of Heritage Division’s Facilities.
FOIP Policy: Your personal information is being collected under the Authority of Section 33 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, and will be used to aid in the volunteer selection process, maintain accurate records of volunteer involvement, and to provide contact information for the program. It will be treated in accordance with the privacy protection provisions of Part 2 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
