Corporate/Group Volunteer Expectations
Corporate and group volunteer work parties are often one-time experiences and are supervised by our horticulture staff. Because each group is new to our spaces, tools, and ways of working, we’ve outlined a few shared expectations to help everyone work together safely and enjoy their time in the Arboretum.
All participants are expected to:
-
Follow staff direction at all times. Arboretum staff will demonstrate tasks, tool use, and work areas. Please pause work and ask questions if anything is unclear.
-
Use tools safely and intentionally. Be aware of your surroundings while using tools and working near others to prevent injury. Tools should only be used as demonstrated.
-
Stay within designated work areas. For safety and plant protection, groups must remain in assigned areas unless directed otherwise by staff.
-
Take care of personal belongings. Personal items should not be left in vehicles. Volunteers are responsible for keeping belongings with them at all times or leaving them at home.
-
Wear appropriate clothing. Closed-toe shoes are required. Clothing should be suitable for outdoor, hands-on work and weather conditions.
-
Support a respectful work environment. Group volunteering is a shared experience. Kindness, cooperation, and consideration for others are expected.
