Our corporate and community group volunteer programme is designed for employees who have community/volunteer days to use as part of their regular work schedule, or groups from the community that wish to support through our services. This can be one off or a few times a year.
Small corporate teams or individuals can volunteer in our food service assisting with the packing of food parcels and picking orders for clients, sorting donations at our Op Shop, and serving breakfast at our Haeata Kitchen.
Current Volunteer Activities for Groups:
Food Service Assistant (Boston Road, Grafton) Groups of 2-3 volunteers (availability dependent)
Tuesday & Thursday – (2 Shifts) 9.00am – 12.00pm & 12.30pm to 3.30pm –
- Activities include packing food parcels, picking orders for clients, stocking shelves, tidying and organising workstations and areas, light gardening and maintenance, breaking down of boxes. Reasonable level of physical fitness required, some heavy lifting up to 20kgs.
Food Service Assistant (NZ Food Network, Penrose) Groups of up to 10 volunteers
Monday - Thursday – (2 Shifts) 8.30am – 11.30pm & 12.00pm – 3.00pm, Fridays 8.30am – 11.30pm (flexible change to 9.30am – 12.30pm if requested)
Shifts available within the last week of every month.
- Activities include packing food parcels, tidying and organising workstations and areas, assembling boxes, breaking down of boxes, taping boxes. Reasonable level of physical fitness required, some heavy lifting up to 20kgs.
Donation Sorting (Symonds Street, Upper CBD) Groups of up to 3 volunteers
Tuesday – Saturday (2 Shifts) 9.00am – 12.00pm & 12.30pm to 3.30pm
- Activities include sorting and preparing donated clothing and household goods for distribution to our op shops. This may include steaming and hanging clothing, tagging items, and sorting other donations including bric-a-brac, books etc.
Breakfast Service (Hobson Street, CBD) Groups of up to 3 volunteers (availability dependent)
Tuesday – Sunday – 7.30am – 11.30am
- Activities include preparing food, serving breakfast to our community, general kitchen duties such as dishes and cleaning before, during and after service, stacking of shelves, topping up supplies, maintaining cleanliness in the dining room and back of house areas during service, and any other jobs as required by the kitchen team.

Auckland City Mission’s responsibilities to you – we will:
- Provide appropriate supervision, support, training, information and resources to enable you to fulfill your duty and responsibility.
- Seek to resolve any problems that may arise while you are volunteering.
- Take all practicable steps to keep you safe from harm while you are volunteering.
Your general responsibilities to Auckland City Mission –you will:
- Ensure all your volunteers are 18 years or older.
- Agree that your activity as volunteers will be unpaid.
- Act in the best interests of the Mission at all times.
- Make yourself and your team aware of, and follow, our policies and procedures, including those related to Health and Safety given before or during your shift.
- Take all practicable steps to ensure your safety and that of others when volunteering.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with Mission clients (No sharing of personal details).
- Not disclose any confidential information about the Mission or clients of the Mission.
- Let us know during your shift if there is something you wish to address, and give us the opportunity to resolve any issue as they arise.
