Information to know before you apply
Information to know before you apply:
1. You must be 18 or over to apply for this role. Recruitment for our youth programme is currently closed.
2. Are you looking for work experience, internships, or clinical placements? We are sorry, but UCLH does not have a programme where we accept applications for work experience placements for school age people aged 16+. Instead, we only offer placements through partnerships with specific local schools.
UCLH does not offer any adult work experience.
Are there restrictions to volunteering at UCLH?
1. Are you a university student? We welcome applications from students. However, we are currently only accepting 1st year students.
2. Do you live more than an hour away? We prefer volunteers to live close to UCLH sites. We are only able to reimburse daily travel expenses of up to the cost of a Zone 1-3 one-day travelcard (currently, £10.50). If you have a journey time of more than one hour to get to us, we find that it makes it harder to sustain a regular commitment and can prove expensive to volunteer. Therefore, if you live more than an hour away, we encourage you to volunteer at your local hospital.
3. Is hospital volunteering right for you? Before applying, it is important to consider that volunteering at a hospital can be an emotionally demanding experience. If you are currently or have recently been coping with a medical diagnosis, either as a patient, family member, or close friend, this may not be the best time for you to volunteer with us. In particular if you or someone you are close to has been affected by cancer, we ask that you wait for two years before applying.
