Volunteer Policies and Agreements

  • The organization expects the highest standard of ethical, compassionate conduct from each employee, officer, director, volunteer, and all others associated with the organization. Our reputation is a valuable asset, and we must continually earn the trust, confidence, and respect of our recipients, and community.

These policies provide general guidance on the principles that we all must follow, but no guideline can anticipate all situations. You should also be guided by basic honesty and good judgment and be sensitive to others' perceptions and interpretations.

If you have any questions about these policies, consult your supervisor or manager.

    • Each volunteer contributes to the overall success of the organization. Attendance is an important aspect in work performance, and individual attendance influences organizational success. When you are not there, someone else must execute the responsibilities that you would normally accomplish. All volunteers are required to be punctual and attend regularly.

    • To present a professional image to our recipients and the public, all volunteers are required to wear appropriate clothing on the job. Depending on the context of your role the dress code will vary, specifics will be discussed during your orientation.

    • The organization is dedicated to ensuring a safe work environment for all volunteers, free of harassment, discrimination, and intimidation. Volunteers are required to handle themselves professionally and review TJB's harassment policy in the document library.

    • Any information that a volunteer learns about the organization, its employees,  volunteers, recipients, or contributors while working for the organization that is not normally publicly available is considered private information. Volunteers may not divulge private information to anybody who is not employed by the organization, or to other employees who do not require such knowledge to aid in providing services.  It is prohibited to photograph, video, exploit, or use the personal information or histories of individuals served by The Joy Bus.

    • Volunteers will be photographed and videotaped to help us achieve our goals and promote our message. The Joy Bus assumes permission to use photographs and/or videos of volunteers in publications, news releases, social media, and other communications related to the Joy Bus' purpose.

    • Volunteering with TJB may expose volunteers to possible dangers such as cooking mishaps (cuts, burns, etc.), car accidents, and property damage.By willingly participating in this service, aware of the possible hazards involved, and you accept any risks of injury.

    • Though volunteers may assist patients receiving cancer treatment, they will not provide medical care to recipients, including but not limited to any activity requiring a medical license, dispensing medication, assisting with medical procedures, or providing medical advice.

    • Any volunteers of any age, starting at 14 years old, are welcome to apply.  Volunteers who are 16 or 17 years old will need written permission from their guardian to participate.  Volunteers who are 14 or 15 years old will need a guardian present during volunteering shifts.  Volunteers in the kitchen must be at least 16 years of age.
