Volunteer Program Description: ParentWISE and PeerWISE

ParentWISE and PeerWISE volunteers are caregivers and former patients who understand what it is like to experience being in the hospital or going through treatments, procedures and other specialized care.

Through sharing lived experiences, volunteers provide connection, encouragement, and support to patients and families facing similar challenges. Conversation topics may include diagnosis, treatment experiences, emotional stressors, and navigating hospital life.

Connections are primarily virtual. In the virtual role, your commitment takes place on your own time from home and level of involvement varies depending on your availability and the referrals received. We also have limited onsite volunteer opportunities for in-person connections.

As part of the application process, prospective volunteers will participate in an assessment to determine whether the role is a good fit based on current program needs and considerations around the timeframe of their personal experience.

If you’d like to learn more about the opportunity before applying, please email our team at parentwise@luriechildrens.org.
