VICF Volunteer Policies

Thank you for stepping up to join the Children's Festival team! We look forward to seeing you on Granville Island from May 26th-June 1st, 2025.

Deadline to apply as volunteer is May 1st. Please contact us if applying after this date.

The Vancouver International Children's Festival welcomes volunteers of all backgrounds and experiences. We are proud to work with a diverse team. Thank you for considering joining us.

Requirements

  • Volunteers need to be at least 15 years old at the time of their volunteer Festival shifts.
  • On-site orientation and training for all volunteers. You can choose between Saturday, May 24th, or Sunday, May 25th. All training count towards your volunteer hours.
  • Ushers are required to attend a Relaxed Performance Online Training in late April.
  • School Hosts are required to attend School Host Training a week before the festival.
  • Regular volunteers must do 2 shifts minimum
  • School hosts must do 3 shifts minimum
  • Crew Captains must do 4-5 shifts minimum

Cancellation Policy

If you cannot make a shift which you have confirmed, please let us know as soon as possible at (604) 708 5655 ext.105 or volunteer@childrensfestival.ca.

Unexplained tardiness and absences will be perceived negatively. You may forfeit your eligibility for volunteer benefits due to repeated lateness and no shows. Please inform us of issues to your being able to fulfill/complete a shift as soon as you are able.

Benefits

  • Free snacks and treats at the Volunteer Centre
  • Standby pass for all performances
  • Free wristband to the Activity Village for each day you volunteer. This is great for you, a younger sibling, or a friend!
  • Signed Confirmation outlining that you volunteered x hours for the Festival.
  • School credit for hours volunteered. If you require Work Experience forms/evaluations completed, you need to volunteer a minimum of 24 hours. 
  • Reference Letter upon request for volunteers who contribute a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Daily festival prize draws, and a Grand Prize draw just for volunteers who have completed over 30 hours

Please note:

  • We communicate almost entirely via email and phone number - please register using an email address and phone number that you check and use regularly.
  • We love weekday volunteers, and offer support for high school students to request time off from school. Contact us to learn more.

  • Parking is limited on Granville Island. We are not able to give out bus tickets or reimburse for parking and cannot pay parking tickets.

Further in this application process, we will ask you for personal information. This will help us communicate with you and place you in the most appropriate positions. Your personal information and photo will not be displayed publicly, nor will it be reproduced or distributed.
