Pines Party Volunteer "Code of Conduct"

This is the beginning of the application process to volunteer for the Pines Party 2026: ALTAR EGO!

Pines Party is more than a weekend—it’s a tradition built by a community that has shown up for each other for decades. What began in the 1980s as a grassroots fundraiser during the AIDS crisis has grown into a global gathering, raising funds for LGBTQ+ causes while helping preserve Fire Island Pines.

We build it. We care for it. We leave it better than we found it.

Every volunteer is part of that story.

Below is our policy that all staff, committee members and volunteers must honor.

PINES PARTY 2026

Volunteer Code of Conduct

1. Purpose

Pines Party is built by the community. This Code of Conduct ensures a safe, respectful, and professional environment for all volunteers, crew leaders, guests, and partners.

All volunteers agree to uphold these standards from sign-up through post-event activities. I understand that Pines Party has my permission to use my name and photographs to promote the organization.

2. Core Principles

Reliability

  • Arrive on time for assigned shifts.
  • Complete the full duration of your commitment.
  • Notify your Volunteer Captain immediately if an emergency arises.

Respect

  • Treat fellow volunteers, crew leaders, guests, and vendors with dignity.
  • No harassment, discrimination, or aggressive behavior against race, sex, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or physical disability.
  • Follow direction from Crew Leaders and Volunteer Captains

Professionalism

  • Stay task-focused during your shift.
  • Avoid excessive phone use.
  • Remain sober and capable while on duty.
  • Do not abandon your post without notifying your Captain.

Safety

  • Follow all safety instructions.
  • Use tools properly.
  • Wear appropriate footwear and attire for assigned tasks.
  • Report hazards immediately.

Communication

  • Use official volunteer channels for coordination.
  • Escalate concerns through Volunteer Captains.
  • Avoid public arguments or disruptive behavior in group chats.

3. Substance Policy

Volunteers must remain capable of safely performing assigned tasks during their shift. Any volunteer visibly impaired while on duty may be dismissed from their role.

4. Attendance & No-Show Policy

Failure to appear without communication:

  • May disqualify participation in future Pines Party volunteer opportunities.
  • Impacts team capacity and event safety.

5. Conflict Resolution

If an issue arises:

  1. Speak to your Volunteer Captain.
  2. Escalate to Crew Leader if necessary.
  3. Volunteer Committee is final escalation point.

6. Confidentiality

Volunteers may be exposed to operational information. Do not share internal logistics, security processes, or private information publicly.

7. Agreement

Participation confirms agreement to this Code of Conduct.

  • I certify that I am 21 years or older.
