Little Elm Public Library Volunteer Policies
The library strives to provide a positive volunteer experience, but volunteers are responsible for respecting the Library and Town policies. Volunteers are accepted for school or value added. We do not accept court ordered community service. Volunteers must be 13 years or older and any volunteer under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian.
Attendance and punctuality
- It is expected that volunteers will show up on time. If you are going to be late or cannot make your scheduled time, please be sure to contact the library staff before your scheduled time.
- Your first no show will be treated as a warning. After that three (3) no call, no-shows will lead to immediate dismissal from volunteer duties.
- Shifts can be cancelled online one (1) hour before the shift time. Please try to cancel online before contacting the library.
Dress Code
Treat the volunteer assignment as if you were going to a job. Dress comfortably but please avoid:
- Clothes that are too tight or baggy
- Clothes that are dirty or have holes
- Clothes that might leave you exposed including, shirts too low or skirts too high
- Open toed shoes and house shoes
- Clothes with offensive words, phrases, or pictures
Have a great attitude
Please treat others as you would like to be treated and respect all staff, other volunteers, and library patrons.
Cell phone use
- Please refrain from using your cell phone unless it is an emergency—this includes texting. If excessive phone use is noticed staff will issue one (1) warning before dismissing the volunteer.
- You allowed to listen to music during Shelving, Shelf reading, Program prepping or Cleaning shifts. Any other shifts music is not permitted. If used when not permitted staff will issue one (1) warning before dismissing the volunteer.
Friends and Family
Please refrain from mingling with friends and family while volunteering.
Food and drinks
Food is not allowed while you are volunteering. You can have a drink as long as it is in a closed container. Exceptions will be made for medical related issues. Please speak with staff if needed.
Agreeing to this means that I understand and will follow the rules during my scheduled volunteer times. I recognize that if I do not follow the rules, then I can be dismissed from my volunteer duties at any time.
