Volunteer Ushers represent both the ECC Arts Center and Elgin Community College. Ushers are expected to adhere to the following professional standards while volunteering. Your courtesy, reliability, and positive demeanor directly impact our patrons' experiences and their perception of the Arts Center.
- Put patrons first. Always be attentive, courteous, and helpful to our guests.
- Be warm and welcoming. Comfort interacting with the public is essential to creating a positive environment.
- Do not report to work under the influence of alcohol or any controlled substance.
- Arrive on time for your scheduled shift and be ready to begin usher duties promptly.
- Adhere to the ECC Usher Dress Code to maintain a professional and cohesive appearance.
- Limit personal cell phone use while on duty. If you must make or take a call, inform the House Manager and step into the lobby discreetly.
- Stay through the entire performance and complete all usher responsibilities before, during, and after the show.
- Demonstrate proper theatre etiquette at all times. This includes being respectful of performers, staff, and patrons.
- Address your concerns appropriately. If you have feedback or concerns about a show or your experience, please bring them privately to a House Manager. Do not share complaints with fellow ushers, patrons, or staff during an event.
- ECC is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the buildings.
- ECC is a firearms and weapons-free campus.
