Volunteer Application Disclaimer
I am participating in Touchdown Kelowna as a volunteer at no cost to the organizers of Touchdown Kelowna: the City of Kelowna, the BC Lions Football Limited Partnership (BC Lions) and the Canadian Football League (CFL).
As a volunteer, I fully understand and agree to the following terms and conditions: I confirm that I am not aware of any reason, medical or otherwise, that would prevent me from performing the tasks required to participate in the above event and fully accept personal responsibility for the damages and costs following such injury, permanent disability or death.
I hereby agree not to make any claim or take any proceeding against the City of Kelowna or the BC Lions, or other persons acting for or on its behalf, with respect to my service as a volunteer or the termination of such service.
I undertake to hold harmless and indemnify the City of Kelowna and the BC Lions and the CFL from all claims, demands, causes or action, loss, costs, or damages that the City of Kelowna, the BC Lions or the CFL may suffer, incur, or be liable for in relation to any injury or property damage I may suffer, or cause in connection with my participation as a volunteer. I hereby release, waive and discharge the City of Kelowna, the BC Lions and the CFL from all liability for all loss or damage, and any claims or demands for such loss or damage on account of injury to person or property.
Additionally, as a Touchdown Kelowna volunteer I commit to the following:
Work under the umbrella of team leaders specific to assigned events, overseen by the volunteer director. In addition, accept the authority and supervision of the Touchdown Kelowna host committee.
Should any issues or problems arise that are outside of your ability to resolve or in your discretion need to be reported please reach out to the on-site volunteer lead or contact the volunteer manager.
Represent Kelowna, Touchdown Kelowna and its valued sponsors, partners, and stakeholders with high standards of decorum and professionalism.
Be neat, clean, presentable and in uniform for all assigned shifts as outlined in the dress code.
Act in a responsible, courteous manner and refrain from consuming alcoholic beverages or recreational drug use while volunteering. If planning on consuming alcohol while off duty, anything identifying yourself as a volunteer must be removed.
Be punctual and fulfill agreed upon time commitments, duties and tasks, including, but not limited to, those explained through orientation and requested by your team lead.
Only access food and events specifically designed for volunteers.
Provide information pertaining to Touchdown Kelowna and answer questions as accurately as possible. If a question becomes too political or sensitive, do not speak off the record or provide inappropriate information, gossip or give your own thoughts or beliefs. If you cannot directly answer a question, find someone that
can. If you must answer a question with “I do not know” be sure to add “but, I will find out.”
Do not speak to the media without consent from the Touchdown Kelowna volunteer director.
Respect the privacy and confidentiality of all those involved in Touchdown Kelowna.
Refrain from approaching any football players for autographs or photographs while acting as a volunteer except at official volunteer events that allow photos and autographs.
Refrain from using your cell phone (to talk or text) while on shift, unless absolutely necessary to obtain information or respond to an emergency.
Permit the City of Kelowna, the BC Lions and the CFL to request reference and/or criminal record checks if necessary.
Familiarize yourself with your area or responsibility. Know where to obtain information to assist visitors.
Check in 15 minutes prior to your shift with the team lead at your volunteer location.
Volunteers are responsible for their parking and will not be reimbursed for such costs.
As a volunteer it is your responsibility to attend all scheduled shifts. If you are suddenly unable to make a shift due to an emergency, you must notify the volunteer director or lead as soon as possible.
Please be aware that failure to comply with the above volunteer expectations may result in termination of your volunteer position.
It is at the discretion of the Touchdown Kelowna host committee and volunteer director what action is taken if volunteers fail to adhere to the above. However, it is possible that failure to adhere to the above may result in immediate termination of your position, removal of your accreditation and you to be escorted off site.
As is the nature of live events, we may be required to make changes to our volunteer’s schedule which result in the need to amend your shift or position. We will always do all we can to avoid this; but should there be a need to amend your role, we will contact you to discuss your options.
I acknowledge that I am over 18 years of age, have carefully read this agreement, understand and agree with all of its terms and conditions, have executed this agreement voluntarily, and agree that this agreement is to be binding upon myself, my heirs, executor, administrators and representatives in the event of my death or incapacity.
