Volunteer Policy and Agreements
As a DCL volunteer, I agree:
- To report on time, as scheduled.
- To dress appropriately.
- To wear a volunteer name badge while I volunteer.
- To record volunteer hours accurately and promptly.
- To inform my supervisors if I am unable to keep my schedule, wish to volunteer in another role, or if I decide to resign.
- To be courteous to customers and employees. While volunteering, I represent the library.
- To respect and protect customer privacy. I will not discuss any customer by name, or any customer’s reading selections with anyone.
- To understand that libraries provide a variety of materials representing many points of view, with which I may or may not agree.
- To accept the guidance and decisions of library staff.
- To understand that volunteering is not a guarantee of a future paid position.
- To understand that my volunteering may be terminated at any time if I do not comply with this agreement.
- To complete a background check if I am age 20 or older.
- To follow policies established by the Board of Trustees.
DCL agrees:
To provide volunteers with a safe, non-discriminatory environment that complies with Federal laws for Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and guidelines for a drug-free and harassment-free environment while performing assigned tasks.
To provide supervision and training by library staff, who will answer questions and provide feedback regarding volunteer tasks, library policies and procedures, and methods of reporting issues or concerns.
