Organization Policies
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Therapeutic Riding Inc. (TRI)! We are a PATH, International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) affiliated center. In accordance with PATH standards, all volunteers must comply with our basic organization policies:
1) Orientation—all new volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Orientation. This helps us keep our program's safety standards high, and allows us the opportunity to inform you of policies & procedures.
2) Volunteer Roles—All new volunteers begin as sidewalkers, directly assisting riders with their lessons. From there, we offer additional training opportunities for Horse Leaders, Tack Assistants, and Grooming Assistants. For a complete listing of volunteer roles, please click here.
3) Physical Requirements—All volunteers must be at least 14 years old, and must be capable of walking or jogging in sandy/uneven footing for at least 30 minutes at a time.
4) Scheduling—To keep horsemanship lessons running smoothly we ask that volunteers make a weekly commitment to a regular volunteer shift—you will be rewarded with smiles! Most shifts are weekdays (late afternoons & evenings) and Saturday mornings.
5) Background Checks—Volunteering at Therapeutic Riding, Inc. is contingent on clearing a background check. Once you have completed your Volunteer Orientation, we will conduct your background check.
6) Volunteer Conduct—For the safety of all humans and horses involved in our programs, we expect volunteers to adhere to the standards outlined in our Volunteer Handbook. We reserve the right to dismiss any volunteer for conduct that is detrimental to the program.
