Before You Apply...

Volunteer Role and Requirements

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Royal Ontario Museum! You can use this portal to apply to volunteer with the Gallery Engagement team in the Hands-on Biodiversity Gallery.

The Hands-on Galleries at the Royal Ontario Museum are interactive learning environments used by families, school groups, tourists and day camps who are seeking a multi-sensory, hands-on experience. The ROM relies on knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff and volunteers who interact with visitors and promote our educational themes and activities.

Volunteer Facilitators assists visitors in using the gallery to its full advantage by providing a welcoming and inviting atmosphere and facilitating with specimens at workstations with activity boxes and touch tables. As a team, ROM Gallery Engagement staff and volunteers work together to enhance the museum’s mission to create knowledge, inspire learning, encourage gathering and spark exchange.

To learn more about the specific galleries visit our website. Additional details about the individual volunteer positions and availability requirements can be found in the application form.

Before continuing, please note the following:

  • All volunteers must be over the age of 18.
  • A minimum 1yr commitment is required.
  • All volunteers must abide by ROM’s Code of Conduct. We do not tolerate any forms of abuse, harassment, racism, sexism, etc. Dismissal will occur if the Code of Conduct is not respected.
  • The application process includes assessment of the initial application, as well as interviews, and a training session. Completing these steps does not guarantee a volunteer position, and an offer to volunteer may be rescinded at any time in the process.
  • Applications are not assessed using any AI tools. Please be patient as application assessment can take several weeks.

We look forward to hearing from you!
