BCWF's Volunteer Philosophy, Rights, and Responsibilities
Welcome to the B.C. Wildlife Federation!
You are going to love it here!
As you’re joining a team that provides outstanding programs and information to our members, you are also becoming a part of an exceptional group of colleagues. We want to ensure that you feel part of our team, that you understand how we operate as a business, and how your employment will flow into a rewarding career.
We build strong relationships with our members. We strive to provide them with information on fishing, wildlife, and habitat within our province. For you as an employee, we strive for a connection with you; where we can provide you with work that you are committed to, enthusiastic about and passionate about.
Welcome to our team!
Volunteer Philosophy
We greatly appreciate the talent and dedication of all volunteers. It is our practice to treat each volunteer with dignity and respect. Our philosophy is reflected in:
- Commitment to the ongoing training and development of all our volunteers.
- Commitment to open communication.
- Commitment to fair treatment.
- Commitment to a positive, clean, pleasant, fun, and safe work environment.
- Commitment to fish, wildlife, and habitat.
We have always supported the principle of equal employment and volunteer opportunities, as per the Human Rights Act. We do not discriminate based on race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status or persons with disabilities. We will not tolerate any unlawful discrimination or harassment in violation of these principles.
As a part of our teamwork philosophy, we strongly encourage open communication among individuals and teams. We feel this is the best way to deal effectively with daily challenges and opportunities, and we encourage you to engage in conversations in a constructive manner if you have any concerns.
Volunteer Rights and Responsibilities
A volunteer is anyone who, without compensation or expectation of compensation, beyond reimbursement of expenses incurred during their duties, performs a task in the direction of and on behalf of the BCWF. Volunteers must be officially accepted and enrolled by the BCWF before the performance of the task.
Volunteers are viewed as a valuable resource to the BCWF. Volunteers shall be extended:
- the right to be given meaningful assignment
- the right to be treated as equal co-workers
- the right to effective supervision
- the right full involvement and participation
- the right to recognition for work done
In return, volunteers shall agree to actively perform their duties to the best of their abilities and to remain loyal to the values, goals, and procedures of the BCWF. Volunteers may be involved in all programs and activities of the BCWF and serve at all levels of skill and decision-making.
The BCWF accepts the service of all volunteers with the understanding all volunteer service is at the sole discretion of the BCWF. Volunteers agree the BCWF may at any time, for whatever reason, decide to terminate the volunteer’s relationship with the BCWF or make changes in the nature of their volunteer assignment.
A volunteer may at any time decide to sever the volunteer’s relationship with the BCWF. Notice of such a decision should be communicated to the volunteer’s supervisor as soon as possible.
