To ensure a smooth application process, gather all required documents before starting and complete your application on a computer, not a mobile device. This approach helps facilitate quicker onboarding into the Volunteer Tutor Program.

Required Documents Checklist

Working with Children Check Clearance (WWCC):
- You will need to obtain a Working With Children Check clearance. This check is at no cost to you. Include your registration number and expiry date.

Photo of Yourself Holding a Photo ID:

Acceptable IDs: Driver’s license or passport. Click Here to View Examples

- Criminal History Check: Click Here to Download the Consent Form to Complete TAFE NSW will undertake a Criminal History Check on your behalf to have your application finalised, this check is at no cost to you.

Proof of Identification:

Used for conducting a Criminal Record Check. Once the check is complete, this document will be securely destroyed.

Commencement Document:

Examples: Australian passport or birth certificate issued by an Australian state or territory.

Primary Document:
- Examples: Australian driver’s license or proof of age card.

Two Secondary Documents:
- Examples: Medicare card, enrolment with the Australian Electoral Commission.

Photo Guidelines:
For the photo of yourself holding a photo ID, follow these instructions carefully:
Taking the Photo
- Use a mobile phone camera.
- Frame the shot to include your head, shoulders, and ID.
- Ensure adequate, natural lighting for a clear image.
- Hold the ID next to your cheek.
- Confirm that your face and the ID are clearly visible and legible.
- Do not cover or obscure any part of the ID with your fingers.
Ensure the photo meets all guidelines before submitting to avoid delays.

Final Steps
- Ensure all required documents are ready.
- Verify all files to be uploaded are less than 4MB to meet the size and format requirements.
Once submitted, your application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted with the next steps to commence as an AMEP Volunteer Tutor.

VOLUNTEER TUTOR PROGRAM
CODE OF CONDUCT
A TAFE NSW Volunteer is required to agree to:
- Complete the online training course
- Attend the online tutor induction
- Maintain a current WWCC
- Commit to meeting a student for 1 hour each week for at least six months
- Focus on everyday settlement English and related English activities, and inform the VTP team if the student requests more advanced assistance
- Maintain the confidentiality of the student's personal information and contact details.
- Respect and support the student within the context of their family, beliefs, and values.
- Show respect for cultural differences and aim to understand the student’s circumstances.
- Address any issues in the tutoring relationship with VTP staff and request support when needed
- Notify the VTP team of student absence/ missed lessons within 7 days
- Complete end-of-term online Tutor Reports within 7 days
- Seek approval prior to moving from online to face-to-face tuition
- Notify the VTP team if you or your student intends to go outside of NSW or overseas
- Inform the VTP office if there are changes to your circumstances and your engagement in the program
- Check your emails, including your junk email folder, for communication from the Volunteer Tutor Team each week
- If you have concerns about your student, seek their permission to refer the issue to The VTP team and then inform us. If the student does not give consent, remind them that they have access to the Pathway Guidance Officer and TAFE Counsellor.
Under no circumstance attempt to:
- Influence a student’s religious or political affiliation
- Engage in commercial transactions with a student
- Accept expensive gifts from students
- Video or photograph students or their families without consent
- Touch students or their families in overly close or inappropriate ways
- Participate in activities which involve gambling, drugs, or alcohol abuse
- Make any public comment on the program unless authorised to do so, including on social media.
