Food at First Code of Conduct and Ethics –
Purpose
The purpose of this Code of Conduct and Ethics is to ensure that all staff, volunteers, and partners of Food at First act with
integrity, compassion, and professionalism as we carry out our mission to alleviate hunger and serve our community.
Core Values
1. Respect and Dignity
Treat all individuals—clients, volunteers, donors, and staff—with fairness, kindness, and respect.
Safeguard the dignity and privacy of those we serve.
2. Integrity and Accountability
Be honest, transparent, and responsible in all actions and decisions.
Use organizational resources, including food donations, funds, and facilities, only for their intended purposes.
Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any potential conflicts immediately.
3. Equity and Inclusion
Ensure services are provided without discrimination on the basis of
race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic status.
Foster an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone.
4. Stewardship of Resources
Handle food safely and follow all health, safety, and food handling guidelines.
Prevent waste and use resources efficiently to maximize impact.
5. Confidentiality
Protect the personal information of clients, donors, and staff.
Share information only when necessary and authorized.
6. Professional Conduct
Maintain appropriate behavior, language, and appearance while representing the food bank.
Refrain from harassment, discrimination, or any form of misconduct.
7. Community Responsibility
Collaborate with community partners, donors, and other organizations to strengthen impact.
Promote the mission of hunger relief with integrity and respect.
Expectations
Volunteers and Staff: Follow this Code at all times and report concerns promptly to supervisors or leadership.
Leadership and Board Members: Lead by example, ensure compliance, and make decisions in the best interest of the food bank and the people it serves.
Donors and Partners: Engage with honesty and mutual respect, honoring commitments to ethical giving and collaboration.
Reporting Misconduct
Concerns about violations of this Code should be reported confidentially to the Executive Director of Food at First or any Board Member.
Retaliation against anyone who reports misconduct in good faith is strictly prohibited.
