Volunteer Policies & Agreement
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the GVFB!
Please review our current opportunities and their requirements before applying.
Application & Onboarding Process:
- Apply online - Complete this online application form.
- Review and follow up - GVFB will review your application and contact you by phone or email (check your junk/spam folder).
- Orientation & CRC - Accepted volunteers will be invited to attend an in-person orientation and complete a free Criminal Record Check.
- Get involved - Once the onboarding process is complete, you can sign up for shifts based on your availability.
Ready to get involved? Please read the following before starting your application.
General Requirements:
- Be at least 15 years old
- Be a resident of British Columbia (can work or study in B.C.)
- Available to volunteer in Burnaby (8345 Winston Street) or Vancouver (3454 Lougheed Hwy)
Volunteer Commitment:
- Commitment Period - February 1 to April 30, 2026
- Availability - Can attend a minimum of 2 shifts per month
- Based on our operational needs, we are prioritizing individuals who are available on weekdays or weeknights.
We are unable to accommodate one-time shifts or shorter commitments.
Volunteer Agreement:
- I will act honestly and follow the highest standards of ethical behaviour when interacting with other volunteers, clients, staff, and community partners.
- I will arrive on time and commit to an entire shift unless an absence is unavoidable, in which case I will refer to the cancellation policy.
- I will accept directions and decisions made by GVFB staff and complete all duties diligently.
- I will report unsafe conditions and practices to GVFB staff.
- I will support clients, community agency partners, GVFB staff, and other volunteers with patience, respect, and dignity.
- I will not take photos of clients and will receive consent from other volunteers and GVFB staff before taking photos.
- I will maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive GVFB information I may learn or use to perform my volunteer role.
- I agree that by submitting an individual volunteer application, I have read and accepted all volunteer requirements and the Volunteer Agreement.
- I understand that by volunteering, I need to be a resident of British Columbia (can work and/or study).
- I further acknowledge and agree that if I do not follow the GVFB policies, I may be asked to temporarily or permanently remove myself from all GVFB volunteer opportunities.
