Volunteer Policy
Volunteer Information
- Dress code: Volunteers in our warehouse, Garden Patch, & Clothing Depot must wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals).
- Personal items: We encourage you to leave any personal items at home. SFBLC is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Cells Phones and Bags: Due to occupational health and safety regulations, we ask all volunteers to lock up their devices and belongings at the front reception lockers to keep them safe from damage on the warehouse floor.
- Harassment: We want you to feel safe and comfortable here. We have zero tolerance for harassment. Please immediately bring any potential incidents to the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator.
- Food for Volunteer Work/ Removal of Goods: It is the policy of SFBLC that volunteers do not receive free food in exchange for volunteering. Anyone can access the Emergency Food Hamper Program or Clothing Depot. Volunteers are only to remove items, food or otherwise if permitted by a manager or a Director at SFBLC.
- Resume Experience: If you want to add volunteer experience to your resume, please tell the coordinator during your orientation. We require a minimum of 60 hours so that we may get to know you and provide an informed reference.
- Minimum Age: Individuals not part of a school group must be at least 13 years of age. An adult must accompany anyone aged 13 – 15.
- School Groups: All school groups must book at least 3 weeks in advance.
Confidentiality
We aim to maintain our clients' dignity and appreciate our volunteers' help. We ask that you keep confidential anything regarding our clients.
Photo and Social Media
Media on the premises often capture the vital work we do in the community. Please consider allowing the cameras to film your contribution to our mission to help us tell our story. This agreement also permits SFBLC to use photographs and/or videos for programs or events in publications, news releases, online, and other communications related to our mission.
