Use BetterImpact to communicate your plans to volunteer with us. You can either communicate with us within the BetterImpact page or directly with our contact information to let us know if you have to leave early or arrive late. It's always better for us to be able to plan ahead for coverage so that programs can run smoothly. Stay home when sick- just give a heads up - if cancelling day of, usually text is best.
Be on time and prepared for the event. We recommend closed toe shoes that can get wet for events in the field, as well as proper gear according to the weather (i.e., raincoat for rain, sunscreen/hats for sunny weather). Please wear your Harbor WildWatch gear and name tag when volunteering at programs. Of course, with weather, you may need to layer over your t-shirt, but please at least have your name tag visible.
A shirt and name lanyard is provided with your Steward Club Membership. We will bring these to your first volunteer event with us, or you can coordinate with Liz to come by the Marine Life Center to pick up your gear.
Fulfill minimum volunteer requests (we won't hound you about participation, but we'd love folks to be involved to the extent that they are available to help us inspire stewardship of the Salish Sea):
Marine Life Center Docent Shift: one shift quarterly
Beach Walks: 4 or more
Outreach Events: 2 or more
We ask that you treat the public with respect and kindness. Any sort of unwanted behavior towards other volunteers or the community will be dealt with accordingly.
Harbor WildWatch is an inclusive and welcoming environment. We expect all of our volunteers to uphold these values.
