Volunteer Policies
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the SF SPCA's Volunteer Program!
This application is designed for both San Francisco and Central Valley volunteers, 18 years of age and older.
You can watch our virtual information session video by clicking here!
Needs:
- Shelter Dog volunteer onboarding is currently on hold as we focus on training our summer volunteer cohort. We encourage interested applicants to check back in the fall to apply.
- For Shelter CAT volunteering, the 10am-12pm shift is FULL.
- Always in need of DOG foster parents that can handle larger dogs.
Volunteer Service Commitments:
Most entry-level volunteer roles at the SF SPCA require a six-month commitment, with a typical schedule of recurring weekly shifts. We have many opportunities for one-time volunteering at Mobile Vaccine Clinics in both San Francisco and the Central Valley. Please review individual role descriptions for details specific to each department.
Volunteers supporting our shelter cats or dogs must commit to a recurring two-hour shift each week for a minimum of six months. To build confidence and deepen skills, we ask new volunteers to focus on either cats OR dogs during their first six months. After that, you're welcome to cross-train and support the other species as well.
After you complete this application, please allow 7-14 business days to hear back from a Volunteer Engagement Staff Person regarding our next onboarding windows for your selected interests.
