JHACC is a drug and alcohol free facility. If you show up visibly intoxicated or high, you will be asked to leave.
If you enter our intake, quarantine, or isolation rooms, you will be asked to leave.
If you are disrespectful to others while you are here, you will be asked to leave.
Court ordered community service workers must complete 20 hours to work directly with dogs, and 30 hours to work directly with cats.
The shelter can be a loud environment. You will hear dogs barking, cats meowing, people talking, music, and lots of background noise. There will be headphones at the volunteer station, and you are welcome to use them as needed.
The shelter can be a smelly environment. At any given time, you will smell urine, feces, vomit, pet food, litter box waste, "wet dog" smell, cleaning products, and other smells. We do provide masks upon request.
The shelter can be a dirty environment. We ask that you wear pants and closed toe shoes while working here. Our walking trail gets muddy with rain and snow melt, so we recommend bringing extra shoes for dog walking during wet weather conditions. We provide gloves, a boot brush, and may have an extra pair of boots available for you to use on the trail (just ask).
