Community & Volunteer Agreements
We’re excited to have you as part of our community! Here are our expectations for staff, volunteers and customers/program participants. By being in the shop, we collectively agree to these norms:
- Be Excellent to Each Other
- We’re a small shop and get busy. Please be patient when staff are helping others. We look forward to helping you when it’s your turn!
- Keep the environment safe and joyful by bringing positive behavior and speech. Weapons, harassment, and aggressive speech/ behaviors are not allowed especially in connection to race or ethnicity, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, body size/shape or citizenship status. If you see these, talk to a staff member.
- Care for the Space
- Shop in designated areas, and help us maintain a clean and accessible shop. Please leave your work area in better condition than you found it.
- Our used items have a suggested price. They are cost flexible, meaning we can work with you on a price that fits your budget. Please ask us!
- If you’re shopping for used parts, please pay for all items before you take them out of the shop or install them on your bike. Talk to a staff member if you have questions about how something will fit on your bike.
- While we don’t offer unsupported use of the shop stands/tools, we want to help you fix your bike! Please talk to staff and we’ll help you make a repair appointment.
- Help us Build an Inclusive, Vibrant, and Equitable Bike Community!
- Ask questions! We are a collaborative learning space first, and a bike shop second. It’s okay to not know the answer - we’ll figure it out together!
- If we don’t have what you need to fix your bike, we’re happy to help you find a solution!
- Share Bikes Together with your friends if you like what we do!
We also ask that volunteers agree to the following:
- Volunteers agree to the Bikes Together General Liability Waiver. The full waiver can be found in the “Profile → Additional Info” section of your Better Impact profile. Please initial this waiver when you sign up.
- Volunteers try to sign up for their desired shifts in advance on Better Impact and agree to log hours their hours on a consistent basis.
- Volunteers agree to keep their Better Impact contact information up to date ESPECIALLY their email, as this is how the Programs Manager sends out updates and requests.
- Volunteers agree to share their concerns, constructive feedback, and ideas to continue making Bikes Together a better place.
- Volunteers contribute to an inclusive, anti-racist, feminist, learning-centered and welcoming space.
- Volunteers agree to support Bikes Together as ambassadors, promoters, and friends.
