About the Program and Ways to Get Involved
Your lived and living experience matters! Sharing your experiences and ideas can help shape Interior Health (IH) mental health and substance use (MHSU) services so they better meet the needs of the people who use them. We offer opportunities for youth (12-24) and adults (19+) to get involved.
We welcome people from across the Interior Health region with lived or living experience of mental health and substance use, as well as family members and loved ones who have supported someone through these experiences.
If you have questions or need help to complete our application, please contact us at IHPeerAdvisory@interiorhealth.ca or phone 250-258-9614
There are two ways to get involved:
- Healthcare Planning and Improvement (Peer Advisor)
These opportunities are open to Peers across the IH region and are hosted virtually with no guaranteed hours. Peer Advisors bring valuable perspectives to discussions about how mental health and substance use services are planned, evaluated, and delivered, ensuring that decisions are informed by the experiences of people receiving care and help make sure services better meet the needs of the people who use them.
Peer Advisor opportunities may include:
- Join one-time engagement sessions
- Join a longer-term working group or steering committees
- Co-facilitate educational sessions or Peer engagement sessions
- Present to staff or community groups
- Local Service Delivery (Peer Volunteer)
Peer Volunteers use their lived and living experience to support mental health and substance use programs and services in their local communities. These roles help support people who are accessing care and services.
Service delivery opportunities may include:
- Co-facilitating clinical groups
- Providing one-one or group peer support
- Supporting outreach and harm reduction services
- Supporting at overdose prevention/supervised consumption sites
- Clinic support, helping people find information and resources.
