The following activities are accepting applications. If you are interested and can meet the scheduling needs, please complete an application and you will be contacted for a virtual interview.

 

Child Life:

Role Overview: Volunteers visit the various floors of the Children’s Hospital. Services provided include sanitizing toys and play spaces, visiting patients and families, bedside and playroom interactions, restocking play and storage spaces, and supporting our Child Life Specialists.

 

  • 2 volunteers    Tuesday 12-4 PM
  • 1 volunteer      Wednesday 12-4 PM
  • 1 volunteer      Thursday 12-4 PM
  • 1 volunteer      Friday 12-4 PM

                              

Dedicated Unit: All Volunteer 

Role Overview:
As a Patient Experience Ambassador, you’ll provide comfort, companionship, and emotional support to pediatric patients and their families. Your presence helps create a warm, reassuring environment during what can be a challenging time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Visit pediatric patient rooms during evening rounds to offer friendly support.
  • Engage with children using age-appropriate communication and comforting interaction.
  • Provide a listening ear to parents and caregivers, showing empathy and care.
  • Ask scripted, non-clinical questions to assess satisfaction and comfort.
  • Confidentially and promptly relay concerns to nursing or the patient’s experience staff.
  • Distribute comfort items (toys, books, blankets) when available and permitted.
  • Uphold patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
  • Collaborate with nursing staff and care teams to enhance the overall experience.
  • Follow all hospital safety, infection control, and privacy protocols.

 

Shifts are scheduled based on hospital unit needs.

 

The Medical/Surgical unit has requested:

  • Monday 4-8 PM
  • Wednesday 4-8 PM

 

Hands & Heart:

Role Overview: Hands and Heart volunteers bridge the gap while parents are away, partnering with our nursing staff to cuddle and rock babies, play games with children bedside, read stories, and keep children company while they wait for their parents to return. Volunteers must be aged 21+ years, attend an orientation and a shadowing shift.

 

1 volunteer is needed for

    • Tuesday – shift time flexible
    • Every other Friday – shift time flexible

 

Welcome & The Landing Attendant:

Role Overview:
As a Welcome & The Landing Attendant, you’ll play a vital role in creating a warm, supportive environment for patients and families. You’ll share helpful information about hospital amenities—such as the Family Resource Center, Get Well Network, food court, pastoral care, and Hogs House—while assisting guests and staff.

At The Landing (our Lab and Radiology unit), you’ll help ease waiting times by engaging children in fun activities like crafts and story time, bringing comfort and smiles during their visit.

Your presence makes a real difference, helping families feel cared for and connected throughout their experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure print resource material is current, appropriate, and available to guests
  • Provides information on hospital amenities and services (Chapel, meal tickets, laundry)
  • Assist families with local recommendations/reservations, directions, and maps.

 

  • A willingness to listen, comfort, and encourage family members
  • Ensure the Family Resource Center is clean and welcoming
  • Maintain an inventory of available child activities, crafts, and books
  • Offer engagement opportunities for children waiting in The Landing for appointments
    • Color sheets, activity pages, puppet shows, story time, etc.

 

  Shifts are scheduled weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 8 am-12 pm or 12-4 pm.

 

1 volunteer is needed for each shift.

  • Monday              8 AM – 12 PM
  • Wednesday     8 AM – 12 PM
  • Thursday           8 AM – 12 PM
  • Friday                  8 AM - 12 PM
